Innovation and strategy
You have an idea, a research result or a prototype. We help you find the first step, and plan the science, approvals and evidence that come after it.
What it is
In one sentence
We turn a new health product idea into a step-by-step plan: the science to do, the approvals to get and the evidence to collect.
Who it is for
Start-ups, university and research teams, hospitals and established companies with a new product idea.
Problems it solves
What goes wrong, and how we prevent it
A study that answers the wrong question
A research study can answer the science question well but miss what the regulator needs. We help you design studies that serve both.
Gaps found after the product is built
Teams often build the product first and plan for approval later. Gaps found late mean costly redesigns. We plan the approval route while the product is being built.
Repeating work that already exists
Research data can often be reused, or topped up with a small extra study. We check what your data already shows before you plan new work.
What you get
Deliverables
- A review of the opportunity and of other products in the field
- A roadmap for the science and clinical work
- A regulatory gap assessment: what your evidence shows, and what is missing for approval
- Your product's claims and intended use (the short, exact description of what it is for)
- Plans for pilot, validation and clinical studies
- Ways to work with universities and companies
- Technical evidence for grant applications, investors and due diligence (the checks a buyer or investor makes)
- A plan for technology transfer and manufacturing
- A plan for entering the market and getting ready for partners
- Oversight of the programme across teams
How it works
Your first step, and what comes next
Out of scope: we do not give financial advice, and we do not raise investment for you.
Start with a workshop
We meet your team. We look at the science, the prototype, the intended use and the markets you want to reach.
Assess the gaps
We review your data and documents. We list what you have, what it proves and what is missing for approval.
Get your first-phase roadmap
You get a plan in order of priority. It covers the science, regulatory decisions, evidence, partners, key risks and the next actions.
Choose how to continue
You can carry on with us by milestone, by project or a mix of both. Or you can take the roadmap and run it yourself.
Regulators and standards
Rules we work to
Your roadmap names the regulator and the rule for each market you want to reach.
- CDSCO (India)
- The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation. India's national regulator for medicines and medical devices.
- Medical Devices Rules, 2017 (India)
- India's rules for medical devices, including software that counts as a device.
- US FDA and EU MDR
- The US Food and Drug Administration, and the European Union's Medical Device Regulation. We plan for them when you want to sell in those markets.
- Terms explained
- A regulatory gap assessment compares your evidence with what the regulator needs. A bridging study is a small extra study that fills a gap in existing data. Technology transfer means handing over everything needed to make a product at a new site. SaMD (software as a medical device) is software that does a medical job on its own.
Proof
Proof
Your plan can draw on our network of 40+ partner hospitals and 50+ clinical trial sites.
We have supported projects with the University of Pretoria, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay and IISc.
FAQs
Questions we are often asked
Who is this service for?
Start-ups, university and research teams, hospitals and established companies. It suits anyone who needs a clear path from an idea to a product that is approved and backed by evidence.
We are an early-stage start-up with a working prototype but no regulatory experience. How can you help?
This is where start-ups often lose the most time. Teams build the product and plan for approval at the same time, but the two plans do not talk to each other. We bring regulatory planning in from the start. We help you design validation studies that give evidence CDSCO will accept. We help you build your technical file (the documents that describe your product) as you build the product. This avoids redesigns when gaps turn up late. You can work with us by milestone, by project or a mix of both. You get senior regulatory help without hiring a full-time team.
We have a university research project with promising results. Can you help us take it to market?
Yes. Research rarely stalls because the science is weak. It stalls because the path from a paper to a product needs regulatory, practical and business work. We work with universities, research hospitals and technology transfer offices. We map the route to approval early. We find what extra evidence CDSCO will need beyond your research data. Then we build a plan from proof of concept to a dossier ready to file. We have supported projects in diagnostics, medical devices, software, nutraceuticals and medicines.
How is research evidence different from what CDSCO needs for approval?
Research studies answer a science question. Regulatory studies show that a product is safe and works. They must meet a set standard, in a defined group of patients, with outcomes chosen before the study starts. We do a regulatory gap assessment on your data. It shows what you have, what it proves, where the gaps are and the quickest way to close them. Often your data can be reused or topped up with a small bridging study, instead of a whole new clinical programme.
When should we first talk to you: before or after we have results?
Before. Ideally before you design the study that will give those results. The most costly mistake is a study that answers the science question well but not the regulatory one. A little regulatory input at the design stage helps. It covers which patients to include, which outcomes to measure, how many patients you need, how to frame the ethics application and how to collect data. Then one study serves both purposes. If you already have results, we will work with what you have. But the earlier we talk, the more options you have.
Can you assess a prototype we already have?
Yes. We review the science, how far the prototype has come, the patent and ownership details you share with us, and the need it meets. We also check its regulatory class and the gaps in its evidence. Then we set out practical next steps.
How does an engagement work?
Most start with a short strategy workshop and a gap assessment. After that you choose how to continue: milestone by milestone, as a set project, or a mix of both.
What do we get at the end of the first phase?
A roadmap in order of priority. It covers the science work, regulatory decisions, evidence to collect, partners, key risks, what depends on what, and the next actions we recommend.
Do you prepare material for investors or partners?
We help with the technical story, the development roadmap, answers to due diligence questions and milestone plans. We do not give financial advice, and we do not raise investment for you.
